Using fluorescence observations from a carbon dioxide sample illuminated by a laser, the time for relaxation from v 3 vibration in pure carbon dioxide has been measured as 3·6 ± 0·2 μs at atmospheric pressure and 293 °k. This agrees with other published measurements using the same method. The variation of relaxation time with temperature and that appropriate to CO 2 -O 2 collisions have also been measured.
