Two versions of a capture theory that both satisfy Coulomb boundary conditions but differ in short-range distorting potential are compared. Rigorously calculated differential and total cross sections in first- and second-order perturbation theory are discussed for p+H collisions at projectile energies of 125, 1000 and 5000 keV. It turns out that the inclusion of second-order contributions leads to a satisfactory agreement with the experimental angular distributions.
