Electron capture from atomic hydrogen by alpha particles and protons

Cross sections for electron capture from the ground state of atomic hydrogen into final 1s, 2s, 2p x and 2p z states of H and He + by protons and alpha particles respectively are calculated in a second Born approximation, for a model problem in which there is no interaction between the heavy particles and the intermediate states are restricted to lie in the continuum.
