Ghetto suburbs, working-class neighbourhoods and fractured cities Urban regeneration rhetoric is composed of problematic notions for those doing fieldwork : socio-spatial confinement, positive discrimination, working-class culture, etc. The suburban issue remains symptomatic of a crisis with respect to the segregative model of industrialised urban life. It is advisable to acknowledge the diversity within an urban environment that is less determined than previously by the economics of labour and its benefits.
