Three-dimensional seismic surveys are applied to the whole range of problems from exploration to development and exploitation. They provide constraints for detailed reservoir characterization, for planning and executing enhanced oil recovery strategies, and for monitoring the changes in reservoirs as they are developed and produced. Modern 3-D seismic interpretation involves the use of interactive workstations and the application of both the hardware and software technologies to accurately and efficiently interpret large volumes of data. The 3-D interpreter must not only understand the concepts of geology and seismology but must also develop an understanding of the various algorithms implemented in computer-aided interpretation tools to effectively use these systems.
