Does the administration of sex hormones affect serum lipids and lipoproteins in women?
Does the administration of sex hormones affect serum lipids and lipoproteins in women?
The study investigates the effect of sex hormones on lipid profiles in women, exploring the relationship between lipid metabolism, sex differences, and atherosclerosis risk.

Hypothesis-generating for sex hormone effects on lipids in women; leaves open causal links to atherosclerosis and any practice change.
The investigations hitherto published on the influence of androgens on the serum lipids and lipoproteins may be regarded as a link in the more extensive investigations for any relationship between disturbed lipid metabolism and atherosclerosis. Much attention has been attached to the greater incidence of myocardial infarction in men below the age of 50 as compared with women in the same age group and to the fact that the level of the alpha lipoproteins in the serum is lower in the former and particularly low in survivors of myocardial infarction (Barr et al., 1952).
