The explicit temperature dependence of a quantity, which is a formula for testing the reality of the penultimate effect in a symmetric polymerization is obtained as for an asymmetric polymerization with two conditional probabilities P LD and P LD Two similar formulae for Δε, are also obtained for testing the reality of the prepenultimate effect. As an exaniple, it is shown that the polymerization of methyl methacrylate with Et 2 AlNPh 2 in toluene is controlled by syndiotactic prepenultimate units.
