Infra‐red light was used to provide ‘dark’ illumination for a TV surveillance system to check the performance of an automatic migratory fish counter. The transmission characteristics of water and infra‐red filters was examined together with the response of TV camera tubes and fish to radiation at infra‐red wavelengths.
