Stability of ferrielectric and antiferroelectric sub-phases in a chiral smectic liquid crystal (MHPOBC) have been investigated by an optical transmittance hysteresis loop measurement at a very low rate of field impression. Pseudo-ferrielectric triple loops due to coexistence of two phases were observed in thin cells, and an antiferroelectric state was realized in the ferrielectric temperature range near a ferroelectric phase. A possible model for molecular orientational structure of those phases and field-induced transitions among them is discussed on the basis of these experimental results.
