Demonstrates enhanced power transfer efficiency in electric vehicles, indicating improved interoperability.
In wireless power transfer (WPT) for electric vehicles (EVs), interoperability issues often arise when the transmitter and receivers are of different types such as Q and DD coils. Misalignment between coils is inevitable in practical applications, leading to a sharp decline in mutual inductance and consequently degrading both the transfer efficiency and power output of the system. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an interoperable wireless charging system, which has the interoperability and misalignment tolerance characteristic. Owing to the diode clamping effect, the system exhibits a self‐adaptive capability to switch to the receiver coil pair with the maximum mutual inductance, in response to varying transmitter types and misalignment conditions. The proposed system is validated by building a 1.7‐kW experimental prototype. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system achieves interoperability between unipolar (Q) and bipolar (DD) coils via adaptive switching, along with highly efficient power transfer, reaching a max DC‐DC efficiency of 92.29%.
