The title compound can be isolated as well-formed single crystals from the partial solvothermal decomposition of Co(acac)3 in THF/H2O (25:1) at 255 °C. The acetate ligands are presumably derived from the oxidative decomposition of acac ligands with concomitant reduction of Co(III) to Co(II). The structure contains bridging acetates as well as bridging hydroxyl groups, leading to a complex framework of edge sharing CoO6 octahedra. The thermal decomposition of the complex ultimately leads to CoO.
