Neutron irradiation of annealed and cold-worked Cu and Al was undertaken to check the validity of the focusing collision model used to interpret many irradiation effects. The irradiation damage was determined by measuring electrical resistivities. The damage rate of deformed Cu was approximately 10% greater than that of annealed Cu, in agreement with previous measurements. An unexpected enhancement of 32.2% was found for a deformed Al sample. This result was supported by experiments on several different samples and indicates that long- range transfer of energy is important in irradiated Al. (H.D.R.)
