Suprapubic aspiration of urine in 101 of these patients revealed ureaplasmas in 20 bladder specimens. Ureaplasmas were the only micro-organisms obtained in 7 patients, while they were accompanied by Gardnerella vaginalis or Mycoplasma hominis in 10. Of the 20 patients with ureaplasmas in the bladder specimens 19 (95 per cent) also had pyuria in the bladder aspirate. Further studies are required to assess the role of ureaplasmas in pathological conditions of the urinary tract. © 1982 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited BySouders C, Scott V, Ackerman J, Khalique M, Eilber K, Anger J and Ackerman A (2021) Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma Molecular Testing Does Not Correlate with Irritative or Painful Lower Urinary Tract SymptomsJournal of Urology, VOL. 206, NO. 2, (390-398), Online publication date: 1-Aug-2021.Krieger J, Boatman E and Kenny G (2018) Ureaplasma Urealyticum Upper Urinary Tract Infection: Persistence and Pathogenicity in a Canine ModelJournal of Urology, VOL. 141, NO. 6, (1437-1443), Online publication date: 1-Jun-1989.Gellman A and Dershewitz D (2018) Skene's Gland Calculi Produced by a Ureaplasma Urealyticum InfectionJournal of Urology, VOL. 135, NO. 4, (786-788), Online publication date: 1-Apr-1986.
