COVID-19 infection was associated with the development of early-stage constrictive pericarditis in a 62-year-old male presenting with chest pain and shortness of breath.
Why the study?
The cardiovascular system was recognized as a major system affected by the emerging SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
Case Report (n=1)
This case highlights that COVID-19 infection can lead to transient constrictive pericarditis, emphasizing the need for cardiovascular evaluation in affected patients.
May indicate early constrictive pericarditis in COVID-19; hypothesis-generating case leaves open prevalence and management.
With the emergence of the novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 as a global pandemic, the cardiovascular system was considered one of the major systems affected by this virus. Here, we report the case of a 62-year-old male, who was diagnosed with COVID-related pericarditis, presenting with worsening chest pain and shortness of breath, with echocardiographic findings suggestive of early-stage constrictive pericarditis.
