Polymerization and grafting processes on freshly formed surfaces

Abstract The intensive mechanical dispersion of a number of solid crystalline and amorphous inorganic substances (metals, oxides, and salts) in vinyl monomers was used for polymerizing the latters under simple conditions. The reaction was induced by free radicals or active ions arising on the newly formed surface of the dispersing inorganic substances. Depending upon the nature of the active surface, such polymerization reactions may lead to grafting of the resultant polymer onto the solid surface of the dispersing substances.
