The reactions of chloromethoxysilanes, SiCln (OCH3)4-n (n=0, 1, 2, 3, 4), with N,N-dimethylformamide, acetanilide, formamide, acetamide and benzamide have been studied. Chloromethoxysilanes reacted with N,N-dimethylformamide to always give 1 : 2 adducts, but compounds SiCln (OCH3)4-n ·- (n+2) amide have been isolated with other amides. Possible structures for these adducts are discussed on the basis of elemental analyses and IR spectra. The adducts were insoluble in organic solvents.
