The Primary Processes of Vision: A View From the Experimental Side

Experimental observations from picosecond spectroscopy studies of the early photochemical events in vision are presented. The data are discussed for implications about the nature of the primary photochemical event, the temperature effect on the molar absorption coefficient of bathorhodopsin, and proton translocation in the dynamic events leading to the formation of bathorhodopsin.
