This paper presents selected findings of an exploratory descriptive research project which studied social work practice with groups in Montreal. This study replicates an earlier research by Home and Darveau-Foumier which was reported in this journal in the fall of 1982. After briefly presenting the design, theoretical framework and methodology of the research, this paper will pay particular anention to the data generated by merging the files from the two studies and the connections between these data and social groupwork theory. The combined findings permitted the identification of a typology of groupwork practice which has implications for groupwork practice, teaching and theory development.
