Does statin use increase the incidence of Herpes Zoster in older adults?
Recent observational studies suggest that statin use in older adults is associated with an increased incidence of Herpes Zoster, likely due to the immunomodulatory effects of statins.

Goldstein and Mascitelli raise a good point that recent, well-done observational studies showed that statin use in older adults was associated with an increased incidence of HZ. These findings are plausible epidemiologically but also biologically given the known immunomodulatory effects of statins, as Drs. Goldstein and Mascitelli note. I appreciate their added contribution to my article.
