Implication

Tirofiban was associated with greater ST resolution in STEMI; leaves open whether routine use improves outcomes or warrants RCTs.

Structured PICO

Does tirofiban therapy improve ST segment resolution and clinical outcomes in patients with acute STEMI undergoing primary PCI?

P
Population
115 patients (mean age 57.7 +/- 12.2 years, 96 males, 19 females) with ≤ 12-hour acute ST segment elevation myocardial infarction who underwent successful primary percutaneous coronary intervention
I
Intervention
Tirofiban therapy
C
Comparator
No tirofiban therapy
O
Outcome
Resolution of the sum of ST segment elevation (SigmaSTR), measured as the difference between the sum of ST segment elevation immediately before angioplasty and 60 min after restoration of TIMI III flowsurrogate

Tirofiban therapy improves microvascular perfusion, as measured by ST segment resolution, and reduces short-term adverse clinical outcomes in STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI.
