The article gives an overview on the preparation and characterization of bulk nanocrystalline or bulk amorphous metallic materials by repeated cold rolling with intermediate folding. The results that are highlighted for pure fcc and hcp metals and one binary glass‐forming alloy indicate that truly nanocrystalline materials with grain sizes below 10 nm can be obtained by this process that does not apply an additional hydrostatic pressure and that is compatible with continuous processing routes.
