BS>Earlier Shafranov and Yurchenko (Nucl. Fusion 8(1968)329) obtained the necessary stability criterion of a plasma in an axisymmetric Tokamak of elliptical cross section, one of the axes of which is parallel to the axis of symmetry. This stability criterion is generalized for the case of an elliptical cross section of the magnetic surface near the magnetic axis. (MOW)
