Why the study?
Although postoperative atrial fibrillation after thoracic surgery is managed with rate control and anticoagulation, details regarding long-term AF outcomes remain unclear.
This case highlights the risk of late recurrence of atrial fibrillation and subsequent cardioembolic stroke in patients who initially develop postoperative atrial fibrillation after thoracic surgery.
POAF may recur with embolic risk long after resolution; hypothesis-generating for extended monitoring post-thoracic surgery.
