Why the study?
Pericardiocentesis decompression syndrome is often unrecognised and underreported, and understanding the etiologies for left ventricular dysfunction post pericardiocentesis remains clinically important.
Highlights pericardiocentesis decompression syndrome as an uncommon but important complication of pericardiocentesis.
Raises awareness of pericardiocentesis decompression syndrome in post-procedure LV dysfunction; leaves open questions on incidence and mechanisms.
We report a case of reversible left ventricular regional dysfunction after pericardiocentesis performed for imminent cardiac tamponade . This complication termed pericardiocentesis decompression syndrome is often unrecognised and underreported. This case is instructive in understanding the different etiologies for possible left ventricular dysfunction post pericardiocentesis and their differentiation in such patients.
