A model of the behaviour of proton spin magnetisation under the author's imaging pulse sequence is presented and its predictions compared with measurements on aqueous CuSO 4 and MnCl 2 solutions. This model is compared with a simple algorithm described and an efficient method for the calculation of spin-lattice relaxation time proposed.
