Acupuncture Treatment of Substance Use Disorders

The use of acupuncture as a medical over the course of thousands of years has led the development of a variety of acupuncture techniques. Clinical trials testing the of acupuncture as a treatment for substance disorder have produced contradictory results. This may be, at least in part, the result of the administration methods performed in the acupuncture schools and protocols that exist. Animal studies, which tend to employ more acupuncture administration methods, have the application of acupuncture treatment for disorders. In future clinical trials and animal, investigators should emphasize the details of specific acupuncture administration methods in order to optimize the use of acupuncture in practice.
