The direct-product model has been suggested as procedure for estimating multiplicative effects of and methods in multitrait-multimethod . Research on the direct-product model is in two ways. First, hierarchically nested are derived for explicitly testing the overall specific patterns of method and trait factors. , formal tests are developed for the pattern communalities. These procedures are illustrated data from Lawler (1967). Index terms: direct-product , method factors, multiplicative model, -multimethod matrix, trait factors.
