Heart rate variability parameters differ by ethnicity (native vs Russian) in the Transbaikal region but not by geography among Russian students.
Ethnic HRV differences should not yet alter clinical norms; leaves open ancestry versus environment effects on autonomic function.
A comparative analysis of the parameters of heart rate variability (HRV) in students from different ethnic groups of the Transbaikal region showed a more rigid cardiac rhythm and high level of the VLF component of the spectrum (in percent) in the native population compared to Russians living in the same region. However, Russian students living permanently in the Transbaikal region and central regions of Russia did not differ significantly from each other in the quantitative parameters of HRV.
