The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed digital media, enabling innovations that range from enhanced content creation to sophisticated simulations. Among these developments, deepfake technology, AI-generated synthetic media that can manipulate audio, images, and video, has emerged as both a technological marvel and a societal concern. This study examines the implications of deepfakes for truth, trust, and democratic processes in contemporary societies. While deepfakes hold potential for creative, educational, and entertainment applications, they also present significant risks, including misinformation, political manipulation, and erosion of public trust in media institutions. The study adopts a multidisciplinary approach, integrating insights from AI ethics, media studies, and political science, to analyze the mechanisms through which strategies employed to detect and mitigate deep-fake content, emphasizing the balance between innovation and societal safeguards. Findings reveal that the proliferation of deepfakes challenges traditional notions of authenticity and accountability, creating ethical, legal, and social dilemmas. By highlighting these dynamics, this research contributes to understanding the interplay between emerging technologies and democratic governance, and it underscores the urgent need for policies that protect information integrity while fostering responsible AI development
