The basic source of hazard in chemical industry is plants with hazardous substances. Exposure to hazardous substances may cause harm to humans, animals and/or the environment. Also, they are a great threat in case of inadequate treatment as well as during production, manipulation, storage, transport, utilization, or even in case of hazard or an accident. In this paper, a definition of a chemical accident has been given, followed by descriptions of accident phases and the zones of accident. Managing and assessing risks related to chemical accidents is a complex process that requires a systematic approach during risk identification, control and reduction.
