Case series describes chronic paracoccidioidomycosis treatment in adults, highlighting the need for early diagnosis and antifungal therapy.
Paracoccidioidomycosis is a systemic disease caused by the fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis complex and Paracoccidioides lutzii, endemic in Latin America. Depending on the patient’s immunological status, it can present as a chronic adult form or an acute juvenile form. Five clinical cases of chronic paracoccidioidomycosis treated in a public hospital in Argentina between November 2019 and October 2022 are described. Due to its wide variety of nonspecific mucocutaneous manifestations, clinical suspicion is essential for early diagnosis, initiation of antifungal treatment, and reduction of disabling sequelae and mortality.
