This project characterizes gut microbial communities in amphibians and reptiles, suggesting links to evolutionary adaptation.
This study collected gut content samples from 13 amphibian and 12 reptile species across China, employing shotgun metagenomic sequencing to comprehensively characterize their gut microbial communities. High-quality metagenomic reads were used to reconstruct metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) of representative microorganisms. The project aims to elucidate the compositional characteristics, functional potential of amphibian and reptile gut microbiota, and their associations with host evolutionary adaptation. All raw sequencing data and assembled MAGs have been quality-assessed according to the MIMAG standards and will be openly shared via the CNSA platform to advance microbiome research in non-model vertebrates.
