The paper analyzes the geomagnetic jerk (a change in the trend of the geomagnetic field secular variation) of 2024, which was operationally detected using data from the Russian magnetic observatories “Klimovskaya” (Arkhangelsk Region) and “St. Petersburg” (Leningrad Region). The discovery of this jerk was made possible thanks to the exceptionally high quality of measurements at these observatories and the use of modern algorithms for processing operational data and extracting the Earth’s main magnetic field signal. Importantly, this jerk has not yet been established in any of the existing global analytical models of the geomagnetic field, as their update requires more time to assimilate the necessary volume of initial data. The paper discusses the dynamic wave processes at the core–mantle boundary underlying the rapid variations in the main magnetic field observed on the Earth’s surface.
