The synthesis of the titled C18 apocarotenoid prohormone by means of palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction between (E)-1-alkenylbis(1,2-dimethylpropyl)-borane (10) and (Z)-6-iodo-5-hepten-2-one ethylene acetal (9) is described. The reaction is highly stereoselective and the demanded (7E) and (9Z) double bonds are readily introduced.
