The reaction between the PCl2Me–AlCl3 complex and camphene yields, after hydrolysis, a phosphetan oxide (3a) and a chlorophosphine oxide (4a), whose structures were established by spectrometric analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The mechanism of their formation is discussed.
