The ability of various synthetic media to support pyocyanine production by Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027 and PRL F20 was assessed in both stationary and shaken cultures. Media which gave good pyocyanine yields with stationary cultures did not necessarily do so with shaken cultures. The production of pyocyanine by ATCC 9027 grown in shaken cultures on media containing 0.04% K 2 HPO 4 was low, and was increased by lowering the concentration of phosphate.
