The production of pyocyanine by 11 isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa grown in three media was measured after 48 h, seven days, and 14 days. The isolates exhibited differences not only in their ability to produce pyocyanine in different media, but also in the time of maximum pigment production. These differences between strains offer an explanation for the variation in reports between authors as to the most suitable medium for maximum pyocyanine production by Ps. aeruginosa , and for the sporadic occurrence of green staining in fleece wool.
