A new multiscale technique, the wavelet transform, is applied to the study of subclustering in clusters of galaxies dealing with two- dimensional or three-dimensional data. The performance of the method is shown on a set of toy models and the statistical validity of the results is discussed for both two-dimensional and three-dimensional cases. Application to the cluster A754 confirms the presence of subclustering in this system.
