Why the study?
After abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery, postoperative cardiac complications are common, prompting evaluation of the perioperative myocardial protective impacts of dexmedetomidine and magnesium sulphate.
Does dexmedetomidine compared to magnesium sulphate improve myocardial and renal protection in high-risk patients undergoing elective open abdominal aortic surgery?
Does dexmedetomidine compared to magnesium sulphate improve myocardial and renal protection in high-risk patients undergoing elective open abdominal aortic surgery?
Dexmedetomidine and magnesium sulphate showed no significant difference in perioperative myocardial and renal biomarkers during elective open abdominal aortic surgery.
May support myocardial protection with dexmedetomidine plus magnesium in aortic surgery; leaves open confirmation in larger RCTs.
Background: After abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery, the likelihood of postoperative myocardial infarction is seven percent, but likelihood of postoperative cardiac problems without signs of ischemic damage is thirty-six percent. Aim: goal of research had been to assess perioperative myocardial protective impact of dexmedetomidine and magnesium sulphate in high‑risk studied cases undergoing aortic vascular surgery. Methods: This randomized double blinded research had been being done in cardiothoracic & vascular surgery center, Mansoura university from May 2023 to October 2023 after approval from institutional review board of faculty of Medicine Mansoura University with obtaining a written informed consent from all studied cases. Results: there had been no variation among studied groups as regard cTnI and CKMB, and there had been no variation among studied groups as regard CC & UOP. Conclusion: Using dexmedetomidine throughout cardiac surgery protected the heart & kidneys, as seen by reduced levels of myocardial- & kidney-specific proteins in the urine & higher creatinine clearance.
