This case study highlights radiofrequency ablation as a safe and effective first-line treatment for typical atrial flutter.
Supports ablation consideration in typical flutter; hypothesis-generating and should not yet change practice.
This care study presents the management of a 66-year-old man with typical atrial flutter. Complications of atrial flutter are hear t failure and stroke. The management of this man involved rate control, anticoagulation, cardiovascular risk reduction and referral for radiofrequency ablation. Radiofrequency ablation is a safe and effective first-line treatment for typical atrial flutter and has a number of advantages over long-term pharmacological management. Issues such as quality of life and patient choice also need to be addressed by health professionals when formulating management plans.
