• Polymethylmethacrylate lenses with nylon loops activate complement in normal human serum and provoke generation of C5-derived peptides with chemotactic activity for polymorphonuclear leukocytes. These observations may explain one aspect of the pathway of implantinduced inflammation and its clinical consequences.
