We report experimental and theoretical investigations of the quantized hole states in a magnetic field. We observe spin quantum beats in the time-resolved photoluminescence of N-modulation-doped GaAs/AₓGa_1-xAs quantum wells in a magnetic field perpendicular to the growth direction. The measurement of these quantum beats, which originate from the Larmor precession of heavy-hole spins, yields the accurate determination of the transverse heavy-hole Land\'e g factor. We find |g_h,⊥|=0.04±0.01, in good agreement with the theoretical calculations based on the k{·}p theory in the five level model.
