Many applications in the field of underwater acoustics utilize an electromechanical system consisting of identical segments. The theory of such a system is derived and the behavior of all segments is described in terms of any two boundary conditions at the ends of the system. An electromechanical equivalent circuit is derived that substantially facilitates the analysis of segmented systems. The use of the theory is illustrated by the consideration of a system of coaxially segmented, longitudinally polarized ferroelectric tubes.
