The cooling system of an injection mold plays an important role in the process of plastic molding, which is related to the production efficiency, speed of the machine, and product quality. In the present paper, thermo-analysis was conducted for cooling of a flat cavity in an injection mold. For injection molding of amorphous and semi-crystalline polymers, the achievement of the highest heat transfer efficiency of the cooling system is considered as the optimum objective. The cooling tube diameter d, the cooling tube spacing a, and the displacement between the cooling tubes and the cavity wall bare considered as the major geometrical parameters in the cooling system. On the basis of the laws of thermodynamics, an optimization mode has been derived. Under physical constraint conditions, these parameters have been computed using the optimization model. The result illustrates that the heat transfer efficiency of the cooling system can be optimized when the parameters
