The principal records showing the distribution of Phlebotomus in the Sudan are summarized. Thirteen species or varieties have been recorded of which at least six can bite man. Only one species of the P. major group has been recorded, P. langeroni var. orientalis Parrot. This has been found in five localities, all of which lie within the endemic kala-azar areas. Observations on the bionomics of sandflies in outdoor situations are recorded, and the methods used in collecting are described.
