Emission image and electron spectral data is presented which qualitatively confirms that graphite flakes deposited on an extended electrode surface form MIM microstructures which promote a field-induced hot-electron emission mechanism in which electrons are coherently scattered from the edge of a flake. The model is further supported by evidence of how the emission characteristics are influenced by temperature.
