The diamond-shaped tetraborane(6) 1 and its pyridine adduct 2 are the first aromatic compounds in which two π electrons display cyclic delocalization over four and three boron centers, respectively (see scheme). The two compounds contain the shortest B−B distances ever observed. R=SiMe3, Pyr=4-tert-butylpyridine.
