Advances in MoS2-based nanomaterials for supercapacitors, batteries and photovoltaics applications

Molybdenum sulfide (MoS 2 ) nanomaterials have been of great interest in recent years, within the family of layered transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs). Owing to their fascinating properties, MoS 2 nanomaterials have proven to be a potential candidate for optimal performances in energy storage and harvesting technologies as well as the various fields of photocatalysis, electrochemical sensors, hydrogen evolution reactions, lubrications, and gas sensors. The synergistic effect of TMDCs' nanomaterials has enhanced electrochemical properties, resulting in improvements in energy storage and harvesting applications. The recent advancement in the usage of MoS 2 -based nanomaterials for energy production and storage prompts us to examine the current trend of the progress made in researching their properties for promising electrode materials. In this review, we emphasize the progress in the ongoing research activities in MoS 2 -based nanomaterials as one of the topical materials in TMDCs for supercapacitors, batteries, and photovoltaic applications to provide insight for future research. • MoS₂ nanomaterials show great potential in energy storage and harvesting • In TMDCs, MoS 2 offers insights into future supercapacitor, battery, and PV research • Its uniqueness shows strong potential in energy, especially for photovoltaic devices • MoS₂ offers promising advantages for high-performance energy storage devices
