Phase I survey identifies no significant archaeological resources in Ocean County, suggesting further investigations are unnecessary.
Ocean County contracted RGA, Inc. to complete a Phase I identification-level cultural resources survey of an approximately 24.13-acre (9.77 hectares) area of potential effects (APE) for the proposed construction of a new overpass bridge (Structure #: 1523-031) carrying County Route (CR) 539 over Ridge Way (a military road) in Plumsted and Jackson Townships, Ocean County. This study was completed in accordance with Section 106 of NHPA and NJHPO guidelines for archaeological survey. Completed between October 2 and 15, 2025, archaeological field investigations included pedestrian survey and excavation of 314, 15-meter interval shovel tests. Phase I survey did not identify potentially significant archaeological resources and recommended no further archaeological investigations.
