Population
127 asymptomatic patients with at least one cardiovascular risk factor (NCEP-ATP III criteria) admitted to Yeungnam University Hospital, including 56 with type 2 diabetes (mean age 64.5) and 71 without diabetes (mean age 64.4). Excluded: history of CHD, unable to measure CCS, inaccurate CCS due to tachycardia/arrhythmia.

Coronary calcium score (CCS) measurement using multi-slice spiral computed tomography (discovery ST 8-slice PET-CT)

Outcome
Presence of coronary heart disease (CHD), defined as perfusion defect on myocardial perfusion scintigraphy or ≥50% stenosis on coronary angiographysurrogate

Multi-slice spiral computed tomography can non-invasively detect coronary calcification, which independently predicts the presence of coronary heart disease in asymptomatic high-risk patients with type 2 diabetes.
